Kibbutz Nir Yitzchak (in the Gaza envelope) was brutally attacked on 7/10. Six kibbutz members were murdered and five taken hostage (since returned and freed). The surviving members were evacuated to a hotel in Eilat on October 8, with only the clothing on their back. They have since been relocated to another hotel in Eilot, near Eilat, and do not know when it will be safe to return to their kibbutz or whether psychologically all be able to do so.
The community, including the children, are suffering trauma after these horrific events as well as grieving the loss of multiple family members and friends. A number of Kibbutz members’ bodies are still held hostage by Hamas.
Unsurprisingly, families from affected communities like NY (still recovering from the trauma of 7/10) are very keen to give their teens the opportunity to participate in such an uplifting and fun trip to Australia, which we are now raising funds for.
This group would join onto the itinerary of another teen group visiting Melbourne from Kfar Maimon to maximize cost efficiencies.
Program participants will be embedded into our community, billeting with local families. For ten days they will experience the sights of Melbourne as well as spend time at Jewish schools, our sports clubs and youth movements.
This trip is a special opportunity for our community to bond with Israelis at a time when many Australian programs to Israel are uncertain to proceed or deemed too risky for families.
We are aiming to bring around 12 - 15 participants (including adults to support and supervise)
