Be‘eri was established on October 6th, 1946, as one of the first settlements in the Negev on the envelope of the Gaza Strip by the values of the Zionist idea of sharing the work together to build the land of Israel.
On the morning of October 7th, 2023, Kibbutz Be‘eri was brutally attacked by hundreds of Hamas terrorists who had only one goal – to murder every Jew and Israeli they encountered and destroy all the houses. Those hundreds of murderers burned, looted, slaughtered, abused, kidnapped, and killed more than 150 people from Kibbutz Be‘eri – children were left orphans, women and men widowed, and families shattered. Over 120 homes and 11 public buildings were severely damaged or destroyed, rendering the kibbutz unlivable.
Following the events, we bear the weight of sorrow. Almost every resident has lost a close family member, and 300 families are grappling with physical and mental wounds. We have been forced to evacuate to hotels across Israel, while living as refugees in our own land, uncertain about when we can return home. Now, we reside in our temporary housing 40 minutes away from our home in Be‘eri, where we begin to heal with hopes that we will return to a bigger, stronger Be‘eri, by 2027.
Yet, in the face of this tragedy, our spirit remains unbroken. We refuse to let any terrorist organization drive us away or destroy our community. We are determined to rise from these ashes, stronger and more resilient than ever before
